City of Lino Lakes <br /> Park Board Meeting <br /> January 5, 1998 <br /> exhausting and time-consuming project, it is well <br /> worthwhile . <br /> • The Secret Holiday Shop, operated in conjunction with <br /> Breakfast with Santa, was also a success . Barry stated that <br /> although participation was lower than in years past, the <br /> program was a joy for young people and received a number of <br /> positive comments . <br /> • The Holiday lighting contest, in its second year of <br /> operation, drew twenty-one contestants compared to seven <br /> last year. The second place winner donated their $50 gift <br /> certificate to the Anoka County Food Shelf. <br /> • Under "Other News" Barry pointed out that the Centennial <br /> Middle School Agreement has been approved by the City <br /> Council, and the school will be used about six days each <br /> week. The City Council also approved a part-time recreation <br /> programmer, who should begin in April of 1998 . Finally, the <br /> Parks and Recreation Department computers have been updated <br /> for the first time in more than three years . <br /> Joe asked about combined activities with surrounding communities . <br /> Barry explained that an agreement is in place between Lino Lakes <br /> and Circle Pines, and an arrangement is being discussed with <br /> Centerville as well . Lexington, not interested in such a program <br /> for 1997, is considering a joint agreement for 1998 . <br /> George asked about ice rinks on the lake. Barry pointed out that <br /> in the past such rinks had been shaved, and flooding would be <br /> preferable. George asked if a fire hydrant is close by, and <br /> Barry responded that there is not. <br /> PARKS UPDATE : <br /> Rick explained that along with the Recreation Update, the <br /> Department would like to provide the Board with a Parks Update . <br /> By way of outlining recent activities, Rick stated that overtime <br /> hours have been devoted to making skating rinks ready for use, <br /> picnic tables have been repaired, the trail system has been <br /> inventoried, and the following items have been approved within <br /> the 1998 Parks Budget: (a) One Toro 325-D Grounds Master with a <br /> 72" side discharge deck to enable the Department to keep up with <br /> additional mowing needs ($19, 000) ; (b) a 72" snow blower for the <br /> Case Skid Steer for clearing rinks and trails more efficiently <br /> ($10, 200) ; (c) two computers ($5, 000) ; (d) one full-time general <br /> maintenance position, effective April 1 ($34, 430) ; (e) one full- <br /> time secretary position (was part-time $10, 390) ; (f) $15, 000 for <br /> trails improvements; (g) one fax machine ($500) ; and (h) minute <br /> taker for Park Board meetings . <br /> Rick enumerated the following items requested but not approved <br /> for the 1998 Parks Budget: (a) seal coating of existing trails <br /> 5 <br />
