City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
July 6, 1998
approximately 1"-2 1/2" in diameter. This species of tree is not
considered a quality species . The removal of the trees would not
diminish the natural beauty of this park, impact the visual
experience of the park area, and there is adequate trees and
brush surrounding this area.
Pam asked how the Friends of the Parks chose this piece of
equipment. Rick explained that there was $1, 600 left in the
budget. That is how much this piece of equipment costs .
Chair Lindy asked if the existing equipment is multi-colored.
Rick stated that most single climbing apparatuses are multi-
colored. Some residents in the area claim this is an eye sore.
There is also concern among the residents regarding additional
equipment in the park.
Joe asked if the funds are matched would there be enough money to
buy something else for the park. He also asked if the equipment
has already been purchased. Rick stated that the $1, 600 is the
total with matched funds . He indicated that the equipment has
been purchased. Rick stated that if there is concern regarding
the Jacobs Ladder in this park, other parks would benefit from
the equipment.
Sharon asked about installation. Rick indicated that
installation will be done in-house.
Pat asked about the age group of children in this area. Rick
stated that this equipment is appropriate for the area.
Chair Lindy stated that this equipment is geared toward older
children. He indicated the equipment will work well in this
park.
Mr. Michael Scheele, 6602 Pheasant Run, came forward and stated
that before money is spent for park equipment for children 12 and
under, money should be spent for children 12 and above.
Chair Lindy explained that the money was raised from a Birchwood
Acres fund-raiser. The money was matched by the Friends of the
Parks, not the City.
Jeff asked if the only concern was color. Rick indicated the
residents are concerned with the color and the addition of
another piece of play equipment. He stated that he was expecting
some residents of the area to be present this evening to address
the Board regarding their concerns .
Paul stated that he did not understand why the residents don' t
want this addition.
2
