City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
July 6, 1998
Paul Montain made a motion, seconded by Pat Huelman, to accept
the Jacobs Ladder addition to Birchwood Acres Park. The motion
was approved unanimously.
Trail Paving 1998 - Rick referred to the highlighted area of the
master plan for Birchwood Acres Park. He indicated that he
recommends that area to be paved. He stated he would like to
locate the trail near the 1/2 court basketball court and
volleyball court next to the edge of the park. This will create
a more aesthetically pleasing experience for the trail users .
With the original location there would be a baseball field on one
side of the trail and a volleyball court and basketball court on
the other.
Chair Lindy stated that the placement of the trail will be moved
closer to the wetland, not between the ball field and 1/2
volleyball court. When the master plan was designed it was more
conceptual than detailed. He indicated that what is most
practical regarding the trail placement is appropriate.
Pat asked if there will be any impact on the facilities if the
trail is moved. Rick stated that when funding is available that
will be discussed further. He stated that there is too much
activity between the two fields for a pedestrian walkway.
Paul stated that the trail could be possibly moved to allow for
more flexibility. The best path site will be chosen when looked
at more carefully.
Pat stated that if activities are not affected, moving the path
should not create a problem.
Chair Lindy stated the path should not be moved. The trail has
to be on the same turf. The best option is what Rick is
recommending.
Paul Montain made a motion, seconded by Pam Taschuk, to move the
trail to better accommodate the fields . The motion was approved
unanimously.
REQUEST TO LEASE PORTION OF QUAIL RIDGE PARK TO RESIDENTS FOR BMX
TRACK:
Rick stated that on June 5, 1998, he was notified that residents
near the Quail Ridge Park were constructing a BMX Track on park
property. Rick stated that he had the Park Maintenance
Department staff remove the track. He indicated he discussed the
situation with Mrs . Terry Scheele regarding his concerns with the
existence of residents constructing a BMX Track on park property.
3
