City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
July 6, 1999
n
Pat stated the next move would be to master plan the park. Then
the park would be but on a list of priorities . At this time
there is no funding available.
Rick suggested a survey be sent out to the residents to determine
their priorities .
Ms . Roland stated she has already determined the priorities of
the residents . She stated a survey would be a duplicate effort .
Rick stated a survey would give the residents an opportunity to
respond to the Park Board. A response is needed from all
residents . He suggested Ms . Roland notify the neighborhood that
a survey is coming.
Chair Lindy explained that a survey is part of the Park Board' s
protocol and process . Every citizen needs the opportunity to
respond and give their opinion. The survey will not slow down
the process . It may be 3-5 years down the road before a play
structure is installed.
Paul added that even if the Park Board had a pool of money the
process must be followed. A play structure costs $25, 000 -
30, 000 . Currently, 1/3 of the City' s park land is not even being
mowed. Funding is a major problem.
Ms . Roland stated this project is a real issue and very important
to her. She asked how she can push this through.
Jeff stated a procedure has to be followed. The Park Board is
not ignoring her efforts or request . Lobbying efforts on her
part will be effective. The petition did get the issue on the
Park Board' s agenda.
Rick added that residents need to understand there are only two
funding sources for City parks . The first is park dedication
funds from development . The second is dollars coming from the
General Fund. At this time, the City Council has not allocated
General Fund dollars for park development . Park Dedication Funds
are normally reviewed in January of each year. A list of
priorities is set and it is determined where the money will go.
Residents may want to make the City Council aware if they want
General Fund dollars used for park development .
4
