CITY OF LINO LAKES PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
10. Attendants should not allow the hockey goals to be set up on
the sides of the rink at any time, regardless of poor ice
conditions on the end of the rinks. This would encourage shooting,
and because there is no screening on the sideboards, pucks could
strike spectators, vehicles, etc.
11. Children and adults will often volunteer to shovel areas of the
rink. Each warming house should have scrapers and shovels for this
purpose. If adults volunteer, the best public relations is to work
with them rather than being a spectator. Don't let little children
Play with shovels. Don't leave large piles of snow to freeze on the
rink.
12. Attendants should use their own discretion regarding sleds on
the rinks. If being pushed or pulled carefully by adults, they
might not be dangerous. If swung around or belly -flopped on by
children, they can be dangerous. Do not allow dangerous play!!
Do not chase violators on the ice - attract their attention with a
whistle blow - call them in and explain the rules.
13. Reserved hockey rink time that has been scheduled through the
Parks and Recreation Office shall be posted on a calendar and kept
in your log book. Also, post a bi-weekly calendar of daily openings
and reservation for the public's information. The attendant does
not have the authority to reserve ice times for the youth hockey
teams. During the Christmas Holidays, youth hockey teams may use
the ice when there are openings, if the daily maintenance is
completed. Attendants are not involved in this in any way. Any
changes in the youth hockey schedule must be authorized by the
Parks and Recreation department.
14. It is the responsibility of the attendant to assure that the
hockey rink is properly maintained daily. Use the chisel to remove
ice that has formed on the boards. The supervisor can be very
helpful by keeping skaters away from maintenance equipment/vehicles
if on the ice during rink hours.
15. Approximately 20 minutes before closing time, notify skaters
that it is near closing and cleaning time. NOTE: Do not flash
lights for this purpose. Use your whistle.
16. If skaters do not come off the ice with this warning, you may
set their shoes outside the door when you lock up.
17. Studying on the job is permissible, providing it doesn't
interfere with your duties and responsibilities. A patron's biggest
complaint is "the supervisor is reading, and the kids are running
wild."
4
