Park Board Meeting
'-,ON Monday, June 3, 1991
area were to be exposed and highly visible to the public. Mayor
Bisel expressed his hope that the Park Board would consider these
facts.
Marty Asleson asked Mr. Birch how much trouble it would be to run
an east by pass on the freeway side of the berm. Mr. Birch said
yes, that someday they could do it. It would require repositioning
of shrubbery and constructing a retaining wall. There would be a
steep incline. George Lindy asked what Marty Asleson feels the
comprehensive park plan has in mind for the south end of the city.
Marty noted that the idea is to create a loop of trails around the
entire city that would take in the other side of the freeway. But
the question is how it will be accomplished in the future.
At this point George Lindy asked Mr. Birch if he was looking for an
answer tonight. Mr. Birch explained yes, that "time is of the
essence", if this project is going ahead he would like to start
digging by this coming fail. Mr. Birch understood that the general
consensus of the board was that he must find a way to incorporate
a public trail system into his "private" development. George Lindy
offered to go with a quorum of the Park Board out to inspect the
property with Mr. Birch before they .would make a decision. Mr.
Birch will meet with the Park Board at the development site at 6:30
PM on Thursday , June 6. At that time the board will make a
decision as to whether they will accept Mr. Birch's plan as
presented this evening. All in attendance will be able to meet at
that time except for Bill Nissen who will go out alone and inspect
the property and get back to George Lindy.
Gary Uhde Development -
This item was moved up in the agenda from New Business to
accommodate Mr. Uhde, as the last agenda item was extremely
lengthy.
Mr. Uhde is proposing a development located east of Sunset Road,
directly north of 35W and south of Marvy Street. This is a 25.4
acre site that will have approximately 57 lots. Mr. Uhde reported
that in a recent discussion with Don Volk, Mr. Volk suggested a
cash dedication may be appropriate, rather than park area, as 6/10
of an acre would be too small for a park, but he wants to be sure
the trails are put in the right place.
Mr. Uhde asked for an opinion from the board. George Lindy
commented that this area would make a nice trail access to the
other trails, and asked Marty Asleson whether he thought we needed
a "piece meal" park in this area. Marty felt that this type of
Page 3
