Park Board Meeting
May 6, 1991
effort should be made to subsidize the programs. Perhaps some type
of scholarships based on need.
Update of Recreation Program - Barry Bernstein, Recreation Program
Supervisor, talked briefly about the summer recreation program. He
explained the brochure he made up regarding the activities that are
offered this summer. Barry has been working with the Centennial
School District to get the recreation information published in the
Observer. The Observer has a circulation of around 14,000. There
will also be ads in the Quad Press and the Circulating Pines
newspaper. Marty Asleson commented Barry has been doing a lot of
work to see that the programs are well organized and that the
children will have fun.
Marty Asleson and Don Volk went to the Lions Club and got a
donation of $400.00 for the Recreation Program. They will also
approach the VFW for donations.
Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park - Marty Asleson gave a report on the
most recent meeting of the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Advisory
11"N Committee that was held on Thursday , April 25th, 1991. He reported
that he and Don Volk were in attendance along with representatives
of Circle Pines and the Anoka County Parks and Recreation
Department. There were reports from Anoka County that the County
compost pile was doing well, as is the County Tree Disposal site.
Also the rate per 18 holes at Chomonix Golf Course will be raised
$2.00. There was a discussion on oak wilt.
A million dollar Nature Center is scheduled to open in the Fall of
1992. One of the problems the County will have will be staffing.
Marty suggested that maybe Lino Lakes would be able to work with
them on that.
The Aqua Lane project was reported on. There will be a walk way and
bicycle trail with a small picnic site there. The County was able
to get cost matched funds from the Federal Government for a bridge
that will go down Aqua Lane.
The County was able to hire a full time Park Ranger this year. He
will have the authority and power to issue citations. Anoka County
Parks and Recreation Department anticipates this addition to the
parks staff will help a great deal to control damage in the parks.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 1991, with
Centerville being the host City.
4
