the Parks & Recreation Department. <br />• Environmental programs, such as a city-wide <br />recycling program, shall be promoted. Programs <br />geared toward protecting limited natural resources, <br />such as environmentally sound maintenance <br />r� procedures, shall also be promoted. <br />• The type/location of local industries and commercial <br />developments shall be defined and documented for <br />the purpose of developing a better understanding as <br />to their impacts (such as pollution, aesthetics, etc.) to <br />the development of the park system. <br />• The Parks & Recreation Board and Parks & <br />Recreation Department shall review and comment on <br />all planned development matters impacting the future <br />of City parks, natural/open spaces and the <br />dedication, acquisition, and development of park <br />land. <br />Community Participation/Interaction <br />Goal• <br />The establishment of an effective, ongoing means of <br />communicating/interacting with City residents about <br />issues related to parks and recreation facilities, programs, <br />,.� and future development. Provide residents with the <br />opportunity to participate in recreational activities <br />through various civic and volunteer organizations and <br />programs. <br />Objectives: <br />Promote active and continuous interaction between <br />the Parks & Recreation Board/City staff and <br />neighborhood citizens, special interest groups, and <br />individuals to achieve effective recreational <br />programming and facility development. Promote <br />active community involvement through needs <br />assessment surveys, neighborhood meetings, etc. <br />• Promote on -going communications between the City <br />and the residents (i.e., community <br />newspaper/activities brochure). <br />• Promote ongoing volunteer programs and civic and <br />athletic/youth organizations to encourage residents <br />and community organizations to assist in park <br />improvements, maintenance (i.e., "Adopt -A -Park") <br />and recreation programs. <br />Policy: <br />• On -going information and education processes shall <br />be developed to enhance participants/ residents <br />knowledge of the existing programs and facilities <br />(i.e., community newspaper/ activities brochure). <br />City of Lino Lakes 7 June 1990 <br />
