PARK BOARD MEETING <br />February 4, 1991 <br />The regular February meeting of the Lino Lakes Park Board was <br />called to order at 7:06 PM on Monday February 4, 1991 at Lino <br />Lakes City Hall by Chairman Ray Johnson. Board Members in <br />attendance were: Candi Toffoli, Bob Williams, John Baumann, <br />Ray Johnson, Ken Johnson, and George Lindy. Absent was Bill <br />Nissen. Staff in attendance were: Randy Schumacher, City <br />Administrator, Don Volk, Director of Public Works, Marty <br />Asleson, Superintendent of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, <br />and Carole Kohler, Parks Secretary. <br />Consideration of Minutes - There were no corrections or <br />additions to the minutes of the January 7, 1991 meeting. <br />The minutes were approved as mailed. <br />Open Mike _ No one appeared under open mike. <br />old Business - <br />A_. Birch StreetSchool RarX Plan L Use - Mr. Andrew <br />Matzke, the landscape architect for the school <br />district, from the firm of Armstrong, Torseth, Skold <br />and Rydeen, Inc. presented a drawing and basic <br />overview of the proposed park/recreation land for <br />the new Birch School that will open in the Fall of <br />1992. This school is designed for up to 800 students. <br />At this time the plans include: three softball fields <br />of different sizes, two regular size soccer fields, <br />two play apparatus fields, future tennis courts, (the <br />School District can't afford to put them in, but will <br />maintain them should the City decide to install <br />them.), a bituminous trail system, and possible <br />picnic areas. Also, a detention pond that would be <br />used for a skating rink. Mr. Matzke explained that <br />the plan would be to try to preserve as many trees as <br />possible. Don Volk and Marty Asleson have both met <br />with John McClellan, Superintendent of Centennial <br />Schools and feel that the City's recreation program <br />could work together with the school to achieve the <br />maximum benefit for all. Ray Johnson thanked Mr. <br />Matzke for the presentation, and speaking for all the <br />members, expressed the desire to work very close with <br />the architects and school district in this plan, <br />whether it be in maintaining fields, irrigation, etc. <br />B. Lakecest/Comprehensive Planj School District <br />prioritization - Don Volk addressed the board <br />explaining that in view of recent staff discussions, <br />he was advised to ask the board to prioritize the <br />spending of dedicated park money. The fund is at <br />around $165,000.00 now with $40,000.00 of that <br />
