CITY OF LINO LAKES
PARK BOARD MEETING
MONDAY, JUNE 5, 1995
high. Marty told of other things that were planned for this park
such as playground equipment, an open play area, picnic area,
horseshoe court, 112 court basketball area, and vegetation seed
and sodding.
The total estimated cost of this park is $77, 750.00. This can be
reduced if we can get lower bids for grading and asphalt work and
participation from the residents in the construction of the
boardwalk and playground equipment.
Jim Bruce told the Park Board that the neighborhood group is
ecstatic with the plan. He said that they have formed several
committees, even a childrens committee, to get them involved.
They would like approval from the Park Board so they can begin
work on the project. They feel the boardwalk is top priority,
secondary is the trails, grading, and picnic area, and master
field areas is third. They would like to get something in their
neighborhood as soon as possible.
George asked Marty if the first step was site preparation. Marty
said they had burned the huge brush pile that was there.
Starting point one was to grade, do a total kill, a finish grade,
and then seed the area.
There was discussion on hiring people to do bobcat work,
boardwalk construction work, putting up the playground equipment,
etc. Marty said from the liability standpoint our insurance
carriers and the League of Minnesota Cities does not have a
problem with volunteers and assembly type work, but when you
start talking about construction work it becomes a liability
issue and he is not sure to what extent we could allow them to do
this. George said we had discussed this area before and had some
insurance figures. Marty will research this and get more
information.
Amy asked who the contractor was for this area and if they would
be able to help with this project. Jim said the contractors went
bankrupt.
George asked if the $4, 000.00 figure was for a contractor or city
staff to do the grading. Marty said it was for a contractor.
George then asked if the plan was acceptable could it be graded.
Marty said Chuck Bradley has been the cheapest contractor he has
been able to find and he would do a general grade. He also said
there were trees that needed to be removed and he would have the
r-
city maintenance crew remove them.
2
