Page 3
Friends of the Park is a non-profit foundation to which private citizens and businesses donate
money to be used in park development for the City of Lino Lakes. Ace Solid Waste is a major
contributor to'this foundation***only on a matching funds basis?--how does that work?***.
Residents can apply for Friends of the Park foundation grants,in which a specific purpose must be
designated and approved by the City Park Board. If residents decide to donate their own money to
develop a specific park, they can donate it to Friends of the Park in order for the money to be tax
deductible. If we decide to pursue this foundation, we should contact Martha Walmsley(hm:
653-7852;wk:582-4071), who is a member of Friends of the Park.
Various people at the meeting discussed what our priorities might be as far as what we would use
any collected monies for. Several mentioned that a playground would be high priority;however,
we all agreed that we want to give any interested residents an opportunity to voice their opinions
and ideas, and to give everyone a chance to get involved. Marty said that most of the new
playground equipment the City has been purchasing is the type used at Rice Lake Elementary
School(rubber-coated metal). He said it's longer-lasting and requires less maintenance than the
wood playsets(Timberline);however, like most good park equipment,he said it is expensive.
Marty will be sending copies of catalogs from playground equipment companies w/price lists so
that we can get an idea of the types of equipment that are available and how much it might cost.
He will also send copies of the photograph of Park Grove Park from an aerial view,as well as a
description of the park space.
After 2 hours, the meeting ended at 9 p.m. Terry agreed to host the next meeting and will be
inviting various people from the Pine Ridge and Park Grove developments. Since his house(on
Lonesome Pine Trail)is adjacent to a portion of the park, we would be able to check out the area to
get a better idea of how the area corresponds to the City's plan. Tery will let each of us know
when the next meeting is(to be held in the coming weeks).
On the meeting attendance sheet, everyone indicated that they would be interested in attending
the next planning meeting. Considering that there are many more residents who will be asked if
they are interested in getting involved,it appears that we have more than sufficient interest in
pursuing the development of"Park Grove Park",or whatever we'd like to call it(Marty said he's
open to ideas!). Some of us expressed;:Merest in moving along at such a pace that would allow us
to have a portion of our park in place by nex:summer.
