Budgeting for 2023 will start in late April so it would be helpful for the Planning and Zoning
Board to prioritize interest, need, and objectives to the extent possible.
Staff would suggest that the board consider the development of gateway design standards as a
priority goal. This could look at all gateway locations as a whole to develop a uniform treatment
when improvements are proposed and funding is available. The City did prepare a Gateway
signage standard in 2006, but it has not been implemented due mostly to cost. The Council has
already expressed a desire to incorporate entryway signage into the Hodgson/CR J improvements
planned for 2023. Anoka County is targeting 2024 for improvements to Sunset Avenue and
Main Street. Ramsey County is proposing the reconstruction of the CRJ Corridor from
Centerville Road to Otter Lake Road in 2024-26.
The City's Economic Development Strategic Plan included the development of the Woods Edge
property as its No. 1 priority. Completion of a market study to evaluate options was identified as
the first action step prior to any master plan revision. Staff anticipates undertaking this project in
2022. Support by the Planning and Zoning Board would be welcome.
RECOMMENDATION
The Planning & Zoning Board may make recommendation to the City Council regarding
proposed study initiatives.
ATTACHMENTS
1.
