DESIGN REVIEW BOARD
May 8, 1991
FOR ROAD SETBACKS, APPLICATION #90 -66.
Bob Adamson addressed the board. He stated that he has provided survey
information about the road location and has visited with the public works director
regarding the road setback from the shoreline. The city code states the road has to
be within 50 feet of the shoreline or a variance would be necessary.
The survey shows an area that is indeed forty (40) feet from the shoreline in a small
area.
The board discussed the fact that if they moved the road an addition ten feet to meet
city code several things would occur.
1. Large oak trees would have to be removed to install the road.
2. The cranberry bog north of the street is a very important natural area.
By moving the road closer to the bog, less area for natural filtration will
remain, and the cranberry bog would suffer. The DNR recommended
that there be a screen of vegetation to shelter the wetlands and the
cranberry bog.
Moving the road would have a great environmental impact to the area.
John Miller added that this plat has come to the point of no return. It has been
approved by the city. This issue was raised by a local resident opposed to the
subdivision. For the benefit of the local environment the variance should be approved.
MOTION: Robert King moved to recommend to the city council a variance to permit
road construction to Tess than 50 feet as outlined in amended DRB Application #90-
66. The six findings of fact have been met. Monika Slatten seconded the motion and
the motion was approved unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OFA MINOR SUBDIVISION FOR WILLIAM J. KIEGER APPLICATION
#91 -16.
William Kieger approached the board. He stated that he lives on West Shadow Lake
Drive and wishes to subdivide his land.
He wishes to create a 80 foot wide lot and sell it providing that it will not be
developed until city sewer and water has been installed.
3
1
1
1
