Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc.
compartment(s) adjacent to the equipment rack, the vertical cavity shall be no more than 25-inches wide.
A hydraulic cylinder powered scissors style mechanical actuator shall provide movement of the
equipment rack from the vertical -up position to the perpendicular -down position. The scissors
mechanism shall consist of a dual set of parallel .5" x 2" aluminum flat bar links with six (6) bronze
bushed pivot bearings, attached to the truss frame, the back wall of the cavity, and the hydraulic cylinder
telescoping rod. The truss frame shall have 1.5" diameter bottom pivot pins and cup style grease able
bearings which are bolted to the outboard bottom corners of the equipment rack cavity. A 12-volt motor
driven hydraulic pump with self contained oil reservoir is to provide hydraulic power for the single
hydraulic cylinder. A spring loaded mechanical equipment rack "up lock" is to be provided, which
automatically retracts/releases prior to activation of the hydraulic pump and down -movement of the rack.
A single toggle style electrical switch is to release the up -lock and control the up and down movement of
the rack. The switch is to be located in clear view of and a safe distance from the equipment rack.
Warning for the equipment rack being un-nested shall be integrated into the "Do Not Move Apparatus"
light located in driver's compartment. Where hinged compartment doors or other exterior side body
accessories interfere with the travel radius of the equipment rack, and interlock shall prohibit movement
of the rack until such accessory is secured.
A job color painted fabricated aluminum body panel shall cover the truss frame, full height of the side
compartments, also enclosing equipment rack's actuator mechanism. The body panel shall be attached to,
travel with, and be easily removable from the vertical truss frame. Attachment shall incorporate
horizontally adjustable stainless steel brackets and multiple aircraft style slotted cowl fasteners. The
painted body panel is to extend from the equipment rack's point of rotation to the top of the side
compartments, overlapping the cavity outboard corners.
Two (2) or more amber color LED warning lights are to be furnished, mounted to the equipment rack,
steady -on while the rack is in the "down" position. An audible alarm is to be provided, activated only
while the rack is moving up or down.
The equipment rack must be of the above described "center -post" design, thus eliminating the need for
front and rear compartment corner mounted actuator bars or stabilizer bars. Center -post design will also
allow for unobstructed access to all of the side body compartments, and opening of the compartment
doors with rack in down -position. Equipment racks that require apparatus body front and rear corner
mounted swing -down arms; therefore obstructing access to the side compartments with rack in "down"
position, are not acceptable.
FOLDING TANK STORAGE ENCLOSURE, HINGED FOLD -OUT PANEL BRACKET
A custom fabricated "box enclosure" shall be furnished, installed horizontally on the top -side of the
hydraulic drop -down equipment rack platform. With the box enclosure in the "up" road travel position,
and to prevent movement/vibration, the box housing shall rest at front and at the rear on nylon blocks
which are fastened to the side compartment roof tops
Box enclosure shall be fabricated entirely of .125" polished 4-way treadplate aluminum, with treadplate
pattern exposed to the exterior.
07/26/22
- 115 -
