Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc.
bearing surfaces, and activation switch conveniently located on the passenger side pump control panel.
The scissors mechanism is to consist of a dual set of parallel .5" x 2" aluminum flat bar links with six (6)
bronze bushed pivot bearings, attached to the truss frame, the back wall of the cavity, and the hydraulic
cylinder telescoping rod. The truss frame shall have 1.5" diameter bottom pivot pins and cup style grease
able bearings which are bolted to the outboard bottom corners of the equipment rack cavity.
The hydraulic actuator and truss frame are to be recessed into a vertical cavity above the wheelwell
housing, provided with a fabricated job color painted body panel which completely covers the truss
frame, overlapping the forward and rearward outboard exterior side compartments. The body panel shall
be attached to, travel with, and be easily removable from the vertical truss frame. Attachment shall
incorporate horizontally adjustable stainless steel brackets and multiple aircraft style slotted cowl
fasteners. The painted body panel is to extend from the equipment rack's point of rotation to the top of
the side compartments, overlapping the cavity outboard corners.
A tubular ladder rack platform is to be permanently attached to the top of the truss frame actuator, and is
to be provided with dual (2) bolt -on ladder beam brackets with spring loaded chrome plated rotating
D-handle swing -away ladder rung clamps. The ladder beam brackets are to be positioned, one (1) ahead
of a ladder rung and one (1) behind a ladder rung, so as to prevent forward or rearward movement of the
nested extension and roof ladders.
Hydraulic ladder rack design must allow for opening and closing of passenger's side compartment doors
with ladder rack in the up and down positions. Center post truss frame's design must allow for
unobstructed access to the side and upper level compartments, with the equipment rack in its down
position, NOTE: Equipment racks that require apparatus body front and rear corner mounted swing -down
arms; therefore obstructing access to the side compartments with rack in "down" position, are not
acceptable.
A large flashing red indicator light is to be furnished on cab dashboard to indicate "ladder un nested".
Warning for the equipment rack being un-nested is to be integrated into the "Do Not Move Apparatus"
light located in driver's compartment. Where hinged compartment doors or other exterior side body
accessories interfere with the travel radius of the equipment rack, and interlock shall prohibit movement
of the rack until such accessory is secured.
Two (2) amber color LED warning lights are to be furnished, mounted forward and aft on the ladder rack,
so as to provide a visual emergency warning while the rack is in "down" position. In addition to the
warning lights, an audible alarm is to be provided, activated only while the rack is moving up or down.
An air cylinder operated spring -loaded mechanical "Ladder Rack Up Safety Lock" is to be furnished,
which automatically locks in the rack -up position and automatically retracts/disengages with activation
and normal operation of hydraulic actuator.
Ladder rack platform is to accommodate the optionally specified multi -section extension ladder and roof
ladder.
EQUIPMENT RACK BOXES
07/26/22
- 117 -
