From Lexington Ave the trail goes south on Lexington which is part of the East Anoka
County Regional trail and is existing to 109t'Ave. Crossing over Lexington it
follows on the South Side of 109"' and over to Pheasant Ridge Drive. From there it is
proposed to continue on the South side of 109t'to Sunset Ave and to cross 35W on
Sunset Ave. To cross over 35W Ms. Blaka states that the Master Plan is still
uncertain. They're proposing two different scenarios. The first is that the trail would
be incorporated into the bridge design when the bridg&is redone at some point in the
future. This would be the less expensive option The other would be constructing a
separate pedestrian bridge over 35W.
The trail would then follow Elm Street which meets up with an existing trail section
and continues on the south side of Elm Street over to the middle and elementary
schools. It continues on the East sik Lake Drive near Mardian Park and eventually
connects with the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. The trail follows a
portion of the Rice Creek North Regional tra11 and:over to Centerville Lake by
Chomonix Golf Course and then continues to the lioat launch, then the south side of
Centerville Lake and meets up;wrth Lamotte Park in Centerville and eventually
connecting on Main Street which is the Central Anoka County Regional Trail.
The rough estnnate for the three remaining sections to be completed is around six
million dollars on the strong side This estimate does-include the pedestrian bridge of
35W on Sur set-which would cost around two million.
Ms Blaska.stated that a trail project like this one would include funding from
Regional Funds throughthe Met Council, state Legacy Funds through the Metro Park
and Trails Legacy program They would also would look for Federal Funding, such as
funnding through the Transportation Alternative Programs. The County will consider
options and look for additional sources of funding to get the trail completed.
The Board inquired about the maintenance of the trail. Ms. Blaska replied that the
County will`meet with the City to differentiate who would be responsible for routine
maintenance on each"section of the trail. Typically the city would do the regular
maintenance on the trail and the County would assist as needed.
Park Board Minutes
August 3,2015
Page 13
