Feedback from the Park Board
The Board made note of the boardwalk section of the trail on the south side of
Marshan Lake as a section to consider for repairs. It is the section behind Marshan
Park between the townhouses and the marsh. They mentioned that it is extremely
rough and in need of resurfacing and would like that to be considered for the Master
Plan.
In regards to the Sunset Ave connection going ovei bridge, the Board noted that area
on Sunset Ave that goes over 35W is now a safety``eoncern for kids and bicycle access
in our community. It is very narrow and consider it to bethe worst bridge in the city
as it is now for pedestrian crossing. The Board noted that they would recommend that
it would need to be widened for safety Nlrs. Blaska mentioned:.that the Highway
Department looks at the safety issues'involved. The County would rely on the
Highway Department to score the safety requlrements for that area
Board inquired if the County has a,General Fund for Park and Trail improvements?
Mrs. Blaska replied,No the County, does not have-a general fund for improvements.
Their budget includes only enough to M1sustan,operations---and maintenance of current
parks and trails They also rely on grants and any.addrtinal funding sources they can
find available
Going Forward .i.
Mzs_-Blaska stated that she is now m-the stage of collecting public input. She has met
with Centeiv111e and will-be meeting with the Blaine Park Board as well. Once she
gets feedback from each'City she will come back before the Park Board and give a
revised update of the Master Plan. Then she will request a Resolution of Support first
through the Park Bo' &and then`present before the City Council. Once received she
will take that back to the;County and wait for approval to proceed.
The_Board mqu rgd"WI here is a time line in place for this project? Mrs. Blaska replied
that there is not a' ieline in place. She further described that the process of the
Master Plan is gathering information and itemizing what will need to be completed to
move forward. First she is getting City support and then will present that to the
County and look for additional funding resources. Mrs. Blaska also mentioned that a
Comprehensive System Plan will be created within the next year, and she will be
returning to give updates on that plan as well.
Park Board Minutes
August 3,2015
Page 14
