Park Board Meeting — January 6 , 2014 Minutes 9 . REVIEW RECREATION DEPARTMENT UPDATE : Rick talked about the Special Events that took place in 2013 . He said the Corn Roast was a huge success and that staff is working on ways to streamline the food lines so that the wait time isn ' t as long in 2014 . He said upcoming events include Snow Day, Sweetheart Party and Super Hero Carnival . Tanya is continuing to do the programming for the Senior Center and it is going really well . He said that the warming houses opened December 13 which is earlier than they have been opened the past few years . Brian did a new program this winter called Light Up Lino Lakes Lighting Contest . He said there were 12 residential homes and 1 business in the contest . The winning contestants received a yard sign for the category they won . He told members to go to the city webpage for a list of results . Blue Heron Days was hosted by the Park and Recreation Department in 2013 . He said overall it was very successful . Rick also mentioned that a 5K run was done during the Blue Heron Days Event . There were close to 200 participants in the race which topped the previous year ' s number of 75 runners . The race was run in the regional park which is a very nice area for a race . Plans for 2014 are already underway for both the race and Blue Heron Days . He asked members to contact him if they had any questions after reviewing the update memo . 9 . 2013 PLAYGROUND PROGRAM REPORT : The 2013 Playground Program was very popular again with 406 participants in the program . Mr . DeGardner said that the city had good staff again in 2013 . He explained the program structure and said that each week had a theme . He then talked about recommendations for 2014 . There is a chance that a 2 week program might be done after the regular program is completed . Park location and participation numbers will be decided later if this program is implemented . 9b . 2013 FALL SOCCER REPORT10 : Rick told members that the 2013 Lino Lakes Youth Soccer Program was again successful and very well received in the community . Participation numbers were down a little but staff is still looking at running the program again in 2014 . Rick asked members to read the report in their packets and to contact him if they had any questions . 2
