CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 4A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Swenson, Public Safety Director <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: March 12, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Hiring of One Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Lino Lakes Public Safety Department is requesting council approval to hire one police <br />officer. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Since the resignation of Connor Williams on November 13, 2017 the police division has been <br />staffed with 26 police personnel. As of March 9, 2018, the police division will be staffed with <br />25 police personnel with the resignation of Officer Jacob Swanson. <br /> <br />The Public Safety Department has been engaged in a police officer hiring process to fill this <br />vacancy. This hiring process included: <br />1. Application/Experience Scoring <br />2. Written Exercise Scoring <br />3. Initial Oral Interview <br />4. Supervisor Oral Interview <br />5. Background Investigation <br />6. Medical Examination <br />7. Psychological Examination <br /> <br />This hiring process has been extensive and has identified officer candidates that will continue <br />the proud tradition of providing high quality public safety services. <br /> <br />The 2018 Approved Budget is funded for 27 sworn positions. The hiring of Austin Riehm as <br />an officer will bring the Police Division to 26 sworn staff. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Staff recommends the Council approve the hiring of Austin Riehm as a Police Officer effective <br />April 2, 2018. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br /> <br />None
