CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3C <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: June 11, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Mr. Garrett Ellertson for a Police Officer <br />position. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There are currently two Police Officer vacancies within the Public Safety Department. At this <br />time, staff has completed one of the recruitment processes, provided a conditional offer, and is <br />recommending the approval of Garrett Ellertson for a Police Officer position. <br /> <br />Mr. Ellerston recently graduated from Alexandria Technical College, with an Associates degree <br />in Law Enforcement, and meets all POST mandated requirements to be a Police Officer in the <br />State. While in school, Ellertson was an active member of the Law Enforcement Club and he <br />currently volunteers for Anoka County as a Special Deputy Reserve. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $25.62, which is step one of the union wage schedule. The <br />Police Officer wage schedule has four steps. With the Council’s approval, Ellertson would start <br />in the position of Police Officer on June 12, 2018. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Garrett Ellertson for the Police Officer position. <br />
