Examples of Resolving
Complex Issues
One of the benefits of working with WSB is the depth
and experience we have working on complex projects.
Amongst our various disciplines, we are continually
working on new and complicated projects. This provides a
valuable resource for the City of Lino Lakes to utilize as a
reference for future projects.
Innovation Saves $2 Million
One example of resolving a complex issue was B.J. Bonin's
and Jamie Wallerstedt's experience working with the
City of North Branch
to locate their newest
well. WSB located and
designed Well No. 5
for North Branch Water
and Light. The geology
around North Branch
posed significant
problems that limited
the yield of wells
and made them prone to collapse. WSB conducted a
geological study that resulted in Well No. 5 yielding 1,500
gpm of sand free water. Well No. 5 produces as much
water as all of their other wells combined. This saved
North Branch over $2,000,000 by eliminating the
need for two or more wells, along with the associated
pump houses. This project was honored with a MSPE
Merit Award in 2008.
Multiple Creative Concepts Facilitate
Efficient State Review
Another example of WSB's ability to work through complex
issues is the work Brandi Popenhagen and Barritt Lovelace
have done for the Anoka County Highway Department
on the layout for the proposed interchange at TH 10 and
CSAH 83 in the City of Ramsey. WSB's currently working
through the federal EA (Environmental Assessment)
process for a grade separated interchange at this location.
This project involves a number of public agencies
WSB
MiiM
& Associates, Inc.
including Mn /DOT,
Anoka County, BNSF
Railroad, and the
City of Ramsey. The
federal EA process
typically takes years
to complete. To
assist in expediting
Mn /DOT's review
of the interchange,
Brandi and Barritt
were proactive in creating 22 different alternatives for
the proposed interchange. The preferred alternative
has been identified and the EA is now focused
on just one design, which created a much more
efficient analysis for the remainder of the study.
Experience with other
Governmental Agencies
Anoka County
There are several recent and ongoing projects that WSB
has been involved with Anoka County.
• Federal Environmental Assessment (EA) for Lexing-
ton Avenue (CSAH 14 to Bunker Lake Boulevard) —
Blaine, MN
• Signal Justification Report (SJR) for intersection of
Bunker Lake Boulevard and Lexington Avenue — Ham
Lake, MN
• Pre - design and Federal EA for grade separated
interchange at intersection of TH 10 and Armstrong
Boulevard, including crossing of the BNSF railroad
tracks — Ramsey, MN
• Currently leading the first of its kind county design -
build project on CSAH 14 — Coon Rapids, MN
WSB's experience and familiarity with the Anoka County
staff will ensure that all projects completed in the City of
Lino Lakes will be coordinated efficiently.
Related Experience gig
