Vadnais Lake Area Watershed Management
Organization ( VLAWMO)
WSB is familiar with the VLAWMO through our work on
the City of White Bear Lake's public works facility. In
addition, WSB has extensive experience working with or
directly for a large variety of WMO's. We have prepared
the WMO plans for the following organizations:
• Elm Creek WMO (Champlin, Corcoran, Dayton,
Hassan, Maple Grove, Medina, Plymouth and Rogers)
• Rum River WMO (Ramsey, Anoka, Coon Rapids and
Andover)
• Gun Club Lake WMO (Eagan, Mendota Heights and
Inver Grove Heights)
• Richfield- Bloomington WMO (Richfield and
Bloomington)
• Lower Mississippi River WMO (Inver Grove Heights,
Lilydale, Mendota Heights, St. Paul, South St. Paul,
Sunfish Lake and West St. Paul)
In the event that coordination is needed with the
VLAWMO within the City of Lino Lakes, we are confident
that our staff has the knowledge and expertise to work
through any projects that may arise.
WSB
& Associates, Inc.
Additional Relevant
Information
Alternative Engineering Techniques —
"Green Design"
Staff at WSB embraces the notion of developing
sustainable or "green design" solutions. Balancing
engineered solutions with natural resources and long-
term maintenance is critical in developing a valuable
green design. One recent example of developing a
project using a green design was located in the City of
St. Anthony.
The City had several issues related to potable water
demand and treatment, as well as drainage issues
near Central Park. WSB developed a first of its kind,
innovative project, which incorporated alternative uses
for surface water runoff and filter media backwash
water from the City water treatment plant. The design
allows this water to be used for irrigation on their 20-
acre City Park and City Hall site. The project reuses
water currently discharged to downstream water bodies
and eliminates runoff and the associated pollutants to
Mirror Lake and the Mississippi River.
WSB assisted the City in securing more than $1.5
million in outside grant funding from the Mississippi
River WMO, Hennepin County, and the RCWD to
assist in the construction of these improvements.
The City did not have to contribute
financially to the project!
The project also received the following awards:
• 2010 ACEC /MN Engineering Excellence Grand
Award
• 2009 LMC City of Excellence Award — Population
5,000 to 19,999
• 2009 MPWA Project of the Year — Honorable Mention
• 2008 CEAM Municipal Project of the Year -
Honorable Mention
Related Experience 111.
