addition of the left turn lane, the proposed street will be 44 feet wide. The 44 foot
wide street section will match the existing street width of Marketplace Drive.
As stated, the proposed realigned 77th Street will be constructed with the City
Standard street section. The street section includes 3.5 inches of bituminous
pavement, 5 inches of Class 5 aggregate base, and 24 inches of select granular
borrow sub -base. However, since the project area contains a significant amount
of native granular soils, it is being proposed to construct the roadway with
12 inches of select granular borrow. It is recommended that soil borings be
obtained along the proposed roadway alignment to evaluate the subsurface soils
prior to proceeding with final design.
The street improvements also include removing the existing right turn lane
located within Lake Drive at the intersection of 77th Street. It is then proposed to
construct the right turn lane within Lake Drive at the new intersection with the
realigned 77th Street. The right turn lane construction will include removing the
existing curb along Lake Drive and then widening the existing shoulder to
establish a new 12 foot wide right turn lane with concrete curb and gutter. The
proposed right turn lane section will match the existing Lake Drive section, which
includes 6.5 inches of bituminous pavement and 6 inches of Class 5 aggregate
base placed on the native granular soils. Additional granular sub -base will be
placed, as required, to maintain the existing roadway grades and elevations.
Please note, the previously mentioned improvements within Lake Drive will
require approval from Anoka County and are subject to change based on their
requirements.
B. TRAFFIC SIGNAL MODIFICATIONS
The addition of 77th Street as the fourth leg of the Lake Drive and Marketplace
Drive intersection will require modifications to the existing traffic signal.
Modifications include the relocation of the traffic signal pole in the northwest
corner of the intersection to provide the desired offset from the curb for the new
southbound right turn lane, the addition and replacement of signal heads for
eastbound traffic, the replacement of signal heads for westbound traffic, the
addition of an emergency vehicle preemption detector and light, and the addition
Feasibility Report 4 13849.006
City of Lino Lakes, Minnesota
