o Tell us how will you select the gang investigator(s) and what criteria
you will use? How will you ensure that the selected officer has or will
acquire the necessary training to be successful?
The selection process begins with the interested officers submitting a
letter of interest. The letter of interest will describe their involvement in
problem oriented policing in Lino Lakes. They will outline projects they
have initiated and what the outcome was of those projects. They will then
state why they are interested in being assigned to the Gang Strike Force,
and what skills they have developed that will bring the most benefit to the
MGSF. Included in this narrative will also be a description of their
investigative experience. Officers of the Lino Lakes Police Department are
expected to utilize all resources available to them in order to investigate
cases they may take while on patrol. The last aspect of the application
memo is having the officers describe how they will ensure that the
knowledge and skills learned while serving on the MGSF gets transferred
back to the department so that the entire agency will gain from the one
officer that is assigned to the MGSF.
After the letter of intent is reviewed, an oral interview panel will be
conducted. The panel members will consist of a supervisory member of
the MGSF, a sergeant and the captain from the LLPD. The officer selected
will be the one that will provide the greatest opportunity for success for the
MGSF as well as the LLPD.
