•
•
•
3) Restoration of native plant communities currently dominated by invasive /exotic species.
Re- introduce native, non - invasive vegetation appropriate to the site;
4) Re- introduction of natural disturbance regimes (such as prescribed fire) that restore and
maintain highly functioning natural systems;
5) Establish native species cover within the 1.0 acre wetland mitigation area, and monitor
establishment of vegetation and hydrology within wetland mitigation area;
6) Monitor rare plant populations;
7) Monitor the site's response to initial restoration and management treatments, and refine
management approach and methods as needed, and;
8) Install conservation area (outlot) boundary markers and interpretive signage that clearly
defines the boundaries of the conservation area.
Year One (September 1 through December 31, 2006) - Outlots B and C
Restoration and Management Tasks
• Salvage local - ecotype native forest wildflowers, ferns, and sedges from oak forest areas
that are proposed for development (prior to site grading and logging), transplant in
forested conservation areas (oak forests and woodlands) during the second and third
quarters of the first year, prior to site grading and/or logging;
• Reed canary grass will be chemically treated with Sethoxydim grass- specific herbicide
and /or Glyphosate herbicides in the fall (third and fourth quarters), so that the herbicide is
translocated into the root systems of reed canary grass. Monotypes of reed canary grass
will be treated with a boom sprayer. Small patches of reed canary grass will be
chemically treated with Sethoxydim grass- specific herbicides, to minimize impacts to
associated native sedges and forbs. Spot treatment of reed canary grass will be
accomplished with a backpack sprayer to limit/eliminate overspray;
• Cattail monotypes will be chemically treated with Glyphosate and or Sethoxydim in the
spring and/or fall of year one;
• Common buckthorn, glossy buckthorn, and Tartarian honeysuckle will be cut and the
biomass removed from the site. Following cutting, stumps will be treated with
Glyphosate and/or Triclopyr herbicides to control re- sprouting. Cutting will be
accomplished with chainsaws and brush cutters (during the third and fourth quarter of the
first year, with herbicide treatment occurring immediately following cutting);
• The 1.0 acre wetland mitigation wetland will be seeded in the fourth quarter of the first
year (following construction) with suitable and appropriate native seed mixes;
• Residential rainwater gardens will be seeded with appropriate native seed mixes in the
second and third quarters of the first year following construction;
• Known locations of endangered plant populations will be monitored during the second
and third quarters of the first year;
• Conservation area boundary markers and interpretive signage will be installed during the
second or third quarter of the year that construction begins, and;
• A qualified ecologist shall monitor grading and construction activities to ensure
compliance with the stewardship plan during site development (third and fourth quarters,
year one).
The Preserve Conservation Development - Restoration and Management Plan 21
