• <br />• <br />• <br />AGENDA ITEM 1 E <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />MEETING DATE: October 9, 2006 <br />TOPIC: Consider Approving Application to Conduct <br />Excluded Bingo event at Centennial Middle <br />School <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority (3/5 Vote) <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Centennial Middle School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has applied for <br />a permit to conduct an excluded bingo event on February 2, 2007 at the middle <br />school. Non - profit organizations are allowed, under the state gambling laws, to <br />apply for an excluded permit if they conduct fewer than four (4) bingo occasions <br />per calendar year. Centennial Middle School PTA is eligible under these <br />regulations. <br />Although the City does not have authority to issue this permit, Minnesota <br />Statutes do require that non - profit organizations applying to the State Gambling <br />Control Board for an exemption permit notify the affected city that they are <br />applying for the permit. A copy of the application for this event is on file in the <br />city clerk's office, along with proof of non - profit status. The police department <br />has conducted a background investigation on the individual PTA member who is <br />managing this event and has reported no reason to deny this permission. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Adopt a motion giving local approval to the application from Centennial <br />Middle School PTA requesting permission to conduct an excluded bingo <br />event on February 2, 2007. <br />2. Deny the application for exemption. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option No. 1 <br />-23- <br />
