WS — Item 7
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item 7
Date: 7 April 2008
To: City Council
From: Dan Tesch, Director of Administration
Re: Contract with Local 49
Background
The City and Local 49 — the bargaining unit representing our streets, utilities and park
employees — have been negotiating the terms and conditions of employment for the past
couple of months. The details of our tentative agreement include:
1. A two -year agreement
2. Annual adjustments of 3% for 2008 and 2009
3. Boiler maintenance compensation increase from $30 - $35 /week
4. Increase of the employers percentage of health insurance contributions by up to
2 %, depending on what happens to our rates.
5. Employees may carry over 20 hours of compensatory time per year.
6. Change in vacation language to the language in the personnel policy
7. The establishment of a Post Retirement Health Care Savings Plan
8. Language that will allow on -call employees to check certain utility functions at
home vs. reporting to duty — a reduction to the city of call out hours.
Requested Council Direction
Staff is looking for approval or additional direction with regard to this contract. The only
other contract approved (2007 -2008) was for police officers and included a 3% annual
adjustment for 2008.
•
•
•
