The assessments are administered
in reading to grades 3 -8 and 10, and in math to grades 3 -8
and 11. The science test is given in grades 5, 8, and once in
high school. Results are used to determine if schools and
districts have made adequate yearly progress.
Centennial students performed better than the state aver-
age in every grade with a district composite score of 80 per-
cent proficient in reading and 76 percent proficient in math.
Centennial students continue to perform well and surpassed
achievement levels of eight surrounding districts.
Centennial MCA -II science scores increased from 48.77%
in 2008 to 58.06% in 2009, above the state average of
45.7 %.
'State required Graduation - Required Assessments for
Diploma test (GRAD)
9th Grade Written Composition, April 2009— Centen-
nial 9th graders scored at 94% proficiency (passing) on this
assessment. The state average was 90 %.
10th Grade Reading GRAD, January, 2009— Centennial
students scored at 86.26% proficiency on this test. The state
average was 77.59 %.
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
Results, which document participation, proficiency, and
attendance, indicate that English Language Learners (ELL),
special education, and free /reduced priced lunch students
performed below target, and did not meet AYP. Specifically,
special education students and students who qualified for
free /reduced priced lunch at Golden Lake Elementary and
Centennial Middle School were identified as performing
below target, as were limited English proficient and Hispanic
students at the middle school. Centennial Area Learning
Center students participating in the MCA II Math Exam
were also identified as performing below target as measured
by the AYP calculations.
