•
CITY "
l ( F
[INL.\ C _ KES
December 7, 2005
Tim Staley
YMCA of Greater St. Paul
2125 E. Hennepin Avenue
Minneapolis, Minnesota 55413
RE: Chain of Lakes YMCA — 7690 Village Drive — Lino Lakes
The Community Development Department recently initiated an informal Architectural
Review Committee to review Legacy at Wood's Edge projects. This informal review is
intended to allow staff a chance to discuss the architectural design of proposals with a
sampling of the Planning and Zoning Board. This is an attempt to gather some additional
feedback, and to allow the applicant to attempt to address any outstanding issues prior to
the item being heard at the Planning and Zoning Board regular meeting.
The first meeting of this committee was held December 6, 2005 at City Hall. In
attendance were Planning and Zoning Board members Perry Laden, Michael Root, and
Paul Tralle; city staff members Michael Grochala, Mary Alice Divine, Jeff Smyser, and
Paul Bengtson.
The following comments were generated at this meeting:
1) The consensus of the members in attendance was that the north wall was a solid
improvement over the original proposal.
2) The consensus of the members in attendance was that the corrugated metal siding
proposed for the child care and teen/senior center portions of the building would
not be compatible with the rest of the Legacy at Woods Edge development.
3) The consensus of the members in attendance was that the single story portions of
the building need to very clearly follow the base /middle /top approach that is
dictated by the design standards. They wanted to encourage the architect to use a
mixture of masonry materials for the base; a mixture of masonry materials or
EIFS /Stucco for the middle/ and to provide a strong cornice element that is not
just metal flashing.
600 Town Center Parkway, Lino Lakes, Minnesota 55014-1182
Phone: 651- 982 -2400 • Fax: 651 -982 -2499
