Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department
600 Town Center Parkway
Lino Lakes, MN 55014
(651) 982 -2440 Fax (651) 982 -2439
www.ci.lino-lakes.mn.us
January 26, 2004
TO: Park Board Members
FROM: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director
SUBJECT: Additional 2004 Goal Setting Meeting Information
Sale of LaMotte Park
After researching the history of LaMotte Park, it was discovered that the City considered selling
the parkland in 1983. Mr. Bill Hawkins, City Attorney, was requested to provide his legal
opinion on the saleability of the parkland. In his opinion it would be almost impossible to sell
the land since this is dedicated parkland on a plat. This gives the City an easement to use this
land for park purposes but the fee title remains with the owner of the land. If it is vacated, the
title reverts to the owner or his heirs. Mr. Hawkins also felt that the sale of this land would need
to be approved by all land owners in LaMotte Third Addition. After further discussion with the
Park Board and City Council, it was agreed upon with area residents to designate the park area as
open space.
Potential Stoneybrook Trails
Attached is some preliminary information related to possible trails serving the Stoneybrook
Development. The narrative and map are related to the trail segments along Birch Street. I will
present information regarding the possible trail leading to Holly Drive on Monday.
sw /parkbrd /meeting information /Additional 2004 Goal Setting Meeting Information.doc
•
