Ice Fishing at Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation <br />Snow Day. Department Program Highlights <br />January Park Board Update <br />SPECIAL EVENTS <br />Snow Day: Our 8thAnnual Snow Day was held on Saturday, <br />January 27 from 1 - 4 p.m. at Wargo Nature Center. The event <br />was again a collaborative event between the Lino Lakes Parks <br />and Recreation Department, the Anoka County Parks and <br />Recreation Department and the Blaine Parks and Recreation <br />Department. Despite the bitterly cold windchill, close to 200 people came out for Snow Day. Participants enjoyed <br />kicksledding, snowshoeing, cross - country skiing, snow snakes, winter bingo, ice fishing, crafts, refreshments and <br />performances by Magical Storyteller Extraordinaire Cheryl Sawyer. <br />Sweetheart Sock Hop: The annual Sweetheart Dance for children ages 12 months - 5 years will be held on <br />Saturday, February 10 at Centennial Elementary School from 10 - 11:15 a.m. This event continues to remain a <br />successful collaboration between the Lino Lakes Parks and Recreation Department, Centennial Community Services <br />and the Blaine Parks and Recreation Department. As of January 29, 47 children are registered for the event which will <br />include dancing to music by Mar -Kit DJs, a valentine craft project, removable tattoos and refreshments. A backdrop will <br />also be set up for "sweetheart" photos. <br />YOUTH <br />Instructional Programs: Many of our winter session youth instructional programs are underway. Dance began <br />January 8 with a total of 41 participants in four classes. Tae Kwon Do began January 2 with a total of 11 participants in <br />classes. Toss, Kick and Catch begins January 29 with a total of 9 participants in two classes. Registration was <br />ghtly stronger this winter than the fall season of these programs. <br />Snack and Skate and Hockey Skills Development: Snack and Skate started Saturday, January 13. 24 kids are <br />participating in these skating lessons on Saturday mornings at Sunrise Park. Hockey Skills Development also started <br />Saturday, January 13. 11 kids are participating in this program on Saturday mornings at Sunrise Park. <br />Fastpitch Pitching Clinics: Fastpitch pitching softball lessons are underway. We have 7 girls ages 10 -14 <br />participating in Sunday morning Fastpitch lessons at Centennial HS. <br />ADULT <br />Open Basketball & Open Volleyball: Open Adult Basketball continues to average 18 -24 players each Monday night <br />at Centennial Middle School, this program runs through March 26. Open Adult Volleyball is averaging 18 -20 players <br />each Friday night at Centennial Middle School, this <br />program runs through March 30. <br />5- Player Basketball: Men's Five Player Basketball is in <br />full swing. Play -offs will start Wednesday, February 21 <br />with the winner advancing to the State Class D <br />Tournament at the end of March. <br />BROCHURE <br />Brochure: Work is almost completed on our spring <br />Schure.
