•
•
City of Lino Lakes
Park Board Meeting
October 4, 1999
The Floor Hockey Mini Camp is a new program for 4 -6 year olds
designed to teach the basic fundamentals and techniques of floor
hockey. There has been a lot of positive response to this
program and only two openings remain.
The Fall Soccer season is well on its way. The numbers of teams
increased from 32 in 1998 to 50 this season.
The Family Turkey Shoot is planned for Saturday, November 13,
1999. The Recreation Department is planning for over 300
participants this year. Approximately 25 volunteers are needed
to make this event a success.
This year's Breakfast with Santa will be held on Saturday,
December 11, 1999. The event already has over 100 participants
registered. Because of the popularity of this event, it has been
moved to St. Joseph's Church, to accommodate a larger number of
participants.
Work is currently underway on a cooperative Winter Family Event
with the Wargo Nature Center. The goal is to hold the event in
January or February of 2000.
PARKS DEPARTMENT UPDATE:
Rick reviewed a memo from Mike Hoffman, Parks Supervisor, which
summarizes the maintenance highlights for August and September,
1999.
Rick noted the improvements that have been made to Sunrise Park
and Rice Lake Estates Park.
Quail Ridge Boardwalk - Rick advised the Parks Department
recently barricaded the boardwalk in the Quail Ridge Development
due to safety concerns. The enclosed letter was sent out to area
residents requesting feedback on various options the City is
considering. Rick referred to the three letters he received from
area residents.
Staff is recommending that the entire boardwalk be removed. This
boardwalk segment currently does not serve a useful purpose.
Certainly when Quail Ridge Park is developed, this boardwalk will
serve a critical link to this future park. When the park is
developed, a new boardwalk system could be installed. With the
Park Board's concurrence, the boardwalk will be removed this fall
or winter.
