• <br />• <br />• <br />Planning & Zoning Board <br />July 14, 1999 <br />Page 3 <br />at the neighborhood meeting and very few neighbors were present. He stated he went <br />door to door with a petition of opposition to the project. He distributed a copy of the <br />petition to staff. He noted no decisions were made at the neighborhood meeting. It was <br />agreed that the Legion would install a fence. He stated that in his opinion, the Legion in <br />that location is a waste of prime real estate. He noted that parking is a concern also. <br />Mr. Smyser read the petition to those present which indicates opposition to any business <br />that would sell or serve alcohol. The number of signatures obtained was 83. <br />Mr. Bob Moser, Finance Officer for the Legion, came forward and stated the Legion did <br />visit with all the residents. A good portion of them were in approval of the project. <br />There were 8 -9 residents that were present for the neighborhood meeting. He stated the <br />Legion has spent $8,000 for building plans. The Legion has spent $35,000 trying to <br />relocate in Lino Lakes for the past 21/2 years. He stated the Legion is not just a bar. The <br />Legion does a lot of good for the community. He asked that the site plan be approved so <br />the project can move forward. <br />Mr. Schilling stated that he believes the application is <br />forestry report is not finished, the lighting is incom <br />at the neighborhood meeting. He asked for the opportunity to <br />serve the community. The vet are working for the benefit of every citizen in the <br />United States. <br />Mr. Corson asked that if Board Members have any concerns they give the Legion <br />direction. He indicated his concern is regarding noise. He stated he would like to see <br />some evergreen trees along the property line and a 6' fence installed. <br />Acting Chair Lane asked about the possibility of a berm. Mr. Smyser stated a berm <br />would not be the best solution. It is possible a fence would help eliminate excessive <br />noise. <br />Mr. Powell added that a berm would be difficult to put in. Also, additional trees would <br />have to be removed. <br />Mr. Johnson stated he would like to see a landscaping plan that the City Forester has <br />already approved. Proper screening from the residents is needed. He stated that when the <br />VFW on Lake Drive requested an addition there were no complaints from residents. This <br />
