I will send you a draft when we <br />have it a little more refined. <br />The ordinance will apply to private property development applications. A plat or site <br />plan application will require a tree preservation plan including tree replacement. The <br />required information will be spelled out in the new ordinance. For a preliminary plat, the <br />tree replacement will apply to trees lost to grading and construction for roads and other <br />infrastructure. For commercial sites, replacement will apply to any trees cut on the site. <br />Three questions have arisen and I would appreciate your thoughts by the end of next <br />week, if possible. <br />1. We are considering creating a special fund with the City to accept cash in lieu of <br />replacing lost trees. That is, if the project site doesn't include enough land after <br />development to provide locations for replacement trees, the City could opt for cash <br />instead of the new trees. The cash amounts will be listed in the ordinance and would be <br />calculated during the project review. <br />I don't see any problem with creating such a fund as long as the dollar amounts are <br />reasonable and consistently applied. I will talk with our new finance director. Do you <br />foresee any problems? <br />2. The Environmental Board asked if we can prevent extensive tree removal on <br />private lots if there is no development application. For example: somebody owns 20 <br />
