6. When the members of any particular work unit are required to wear a hard hat, then all <br />personnel from whatever sources shall be required to wear a hard hat while on the job site of <br />that work unit. <br />7. Equipment operators and truck drivers who leave their cabs on job sites with overhead <br />exposure are required to wear hard hats. <br />8. Employees shall be required to wear substantial footwear of a type and height to at least <br />cover the ankle — sneakers, sandals, low cuts, etc. shall be prohibited. <br />9. Employees shall be required to wear a conventional shirt or T -shirt and full - length trousers. <br />10. Permanent full -time and seasonal employees on maintenance and construction functions that <br />have inherent safety hazards shall be provided with and required to wear safety glasses or <br />goggles at all times during duty hours. Those employees who wear prescription glasses shall <br />be required to wear protective goggles. <br />11. Employees operating City vehicles that have seat belts shall be required to wear same. <br />12. Employees shall not be permitted to ride on the outside of vehicles (running boards, hoods, <br />top of cabs, etc.) <br />13. Any employee where long hair could conceivably be considered a safety hazard shall be <br />required to wear a headband or provide some other measure of control. <br />14. Employees shall submit a written and dated report of unsafe equipment or conditions to their <br />department supervisors. <br />15. Department supervisors shall not assign unsafe vehicles or equipment to employees. <br />16. Department supervisors shall not assign work to any employee who is not properly equipped <br />with safety and foul weather gear. <br />17. Any employee who works more than two (2) consecutive eight (8) hour shifts shall not be <br />allowed to work until he or she has had an eight (8) hour rest period. <br />18. Any employee whose presence could become a health or safety hazard because he or she is <br />overly fatigued shall be asked to dismiss himself/herself until he /she is in a more acceptable <br />condition. <br />* *If an employee violates a safety rule or regulation while under the direct and visual <br />supervision of an overseer, he /she shall be directed to comply. The overseer shall report refusal <br />to comply or be subjected to the same reprimands and penalties as the violator. A written, dated <br />record shall be made of the proceedings. <br />OBJECTIVES AND COMMUNICATION <br />The objective of the Safety Committee is to reduce loss, promote training and maintain safety <br />awareness. The Safety Committee communicates to fellow employees by the committee <br />minutes. The minutes are distributed to employees and copies of each of the meeting minutes <br />are available in the City Library. <br />FIRST AID <br />1. Employees shall be familiar with the location of first aid kits and/or assistance. <br />2. Employees shall obtain immediate first aid for injuries incurred while on the job. <br />3. First aid kits shall be kept complete and will be inspected regularly by supervisory personnel. <br />3 <br />
