OFFICE WORKERS <br />1. Employees operating any VTD (Video Terminal Display) systems or keyboard equipment <br />more than four hours in duration must take at least a fifteen- minute break from such. This <br />should be done by standing up, stretching legs and arms, and rotating neck and shoulders. <br />2. Office furniture and equipment should be placed and arranged so that there are no sharp <br />corners or angles that will protrude into an aisle way. <br />3. When lifting overhead items, employees should lift with both hands, and only lift what can <br />be easily handled with/in both hands. <br />4. Use correct equipment (ladders, step stools) to reach overhead materials. Do not use chairs <br />with wheels, edges of desks, etc. <br />5. Employees should avoid tilting chairs back, or sitting on the edge of them. <br />6. Employees should refrain from moving office equipment, materials or furniture without <br />authorization from their Supervisors. <br />7. Employees shall not leave desk drawers or file drawers open, or file cabinet covers extended <br />when not being used. <br />8. Opening more than one drawer at a time could cause the cabinet to tip over, so this practice <br />should be avoided whenever possible. <br />9. The floors in the work area should be free of loose objects, including extension cords, rugs or <br />floor mat. <br />10. Blind corners should be equipped with convex mirrors so as to prevent collisions at a blind <br />intersection. <br />11. Employees should stand free of all doorways when a door enters into that area. Signs of <br />warning shall be posted on doors that would enter into a high traffic area. <br />12. When the employees get a scheduled bread form the job, they should remove themselves <br />from their work environment. <br />OPERATION OF VEHICLES <br />1. Traffic rules and regulations shall be obeyed by all City employees except those emergency <br />vehicles, which have other specified authorization during certain times of emergency. <br />2. Seat belts shall be worn by all drivers and passengers using City vehicles pursuant to State <br />Statutes. <br />3. When driving a City owned vehicle, you are responsible for insuring that passengers are <br />safely in the vehicle before starting it. <br />4. City vehicles shall be checked before use. If any defects are found, they must be reported to <br />your supervisor immediately, per State Statutes. <br />5. A slow moving vehicle is one that is designed to move at a speed of 25 mph or less. <br />6. Employees driving slow moving vehicles on City streets shall make sure that the vehicle <br />possesses an easily identifiable "Slow Moving Vehicle" sign. <br />7. Slow moving vehicles shall be driven on public streets or highways only when safety <br />beacons are flashing. <br />5 <br />
