5. The area to be mowed should be checked beforehand to remove debris, rocks, and etc... <br />6. When loading or unloading such machinery, gloves shall be worn. <br />7. Engine on mower shall be turned off when refueling. <br />8. Operator shall wear appropriate foot protection. <br />9. Operator shall assure that all safety lockout devices are in working order. <br />Snow Blowers <br />1. Before operating snow - blowing equipment, all maintenance and procedures manuals must be <br />reviewed. <br />2. The area immediately around snow blower operations should limit public exposure. <br />3. The operators of snow blowers should be aware of public exposure so as to not discharge <br />snow towards people, buildings or vehicles. <br />4. Under no circumstances should an operator of a snow blower place his/her hands or feet in <br />the auger and discharge chute areas of a snow blower. <br />acks <br />1. The manufacturer's rated capacity shall be legibly marked on all jacks and shall not be <br />exceeded. Jacks shall be used only for the manufacturer's intended purpose. <br />2. When it is necessary to provide a firm foundation, the base of the jack shall be blocked or <br />cribbed. Where there is a possibility of slippage of the metal cap of the jack, a wood block <br />shall be placed between the cap and the load. <br />3. The operator should inspect the jack to determine its condition. Hydraulic jacks should be <br />checked for worn links or gaskets. Jacks which show excessive leakage shall not be used. <br />4. After the load has been raised, it should be properly blocked to insure stability. Never let the <br />jack hold the entire load alone while working underneath he load or when the load is <br />unattended. <br />Tree Chipper <br />1. Regular inspection shall be made to determine the operating condition of the chipper. <br />2. Operators shall wear a tight fitting shirt and cuff less slacks, and remove all jewelry to <br />minimize the danger of becoming snagged on tree limbs or branches. <br />3. The area immediately around the chipper shall be arranged in such a manner as to prevent <br />public access. <br />4. A push stick shall be provided and used to push small pieces of wood into the chipper blades. <br />5. Hard hats and proper eye an ear protection shall be worn by all personnel in the area. <br />6. When operating on public roadways, uniform traffic control signage shall be used. <br />Ladders <br />1. Before using any ladder, employees shall visually inspect the ladder. <br />2. When inspecting wooden ladders, employees should look for warping, cracks, loose rungs, <br />and condition of extension lock and stability of non -skid feet. <br />10 <br />
