HARD HATS <br />Hard hats shall be worn under the following conditions: <br />1. By employees working in elevated areas such as boom trucks, poles, scaffolding, etc. <br />2. While doing electrical work. <br />3. Within 100 feet of any heavy equipment in operation. <br />4. Below ground. <br />5. During forestry operations. <br />6. At any time when overhead work is being done. <br />7. Whenever signs requiring hard hats are posted, employees shall wear their hard hats. <br />INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING <br />1. Employees shall be provided initial indoctrination and such continuing instruction as will <br />enable them to conduct their work in a proper manner. <br />2. Initial indoctrination shall include instruction in safety practices, reporting of all accidents <br />and individual responsibility for minimal risk operations as prescribed by the City Safety <br />manual and other applicable policies. <br />3. A minimum of two 30- minute safety meetings for all workers shall be conducted each year <br />by all field supervisors. <br />4. Persons required to use protective divides and/or equipment shall be properly instructed and <br />trained in the use of such devices and equipment. <br />5. Persons required to handle flammable or other hazardous materials shall be fully instructed in <br />the proper handling and use of such materials. <br />6. Persons required to work in areas where insects, rodents, snakes, poisonous plants, or other <br />natural hazards might by encountered shall be instructed regarding potential hazards, first aid <br />procedures, proper identification, and personal protective measures. <br />SAFETY INSPECTIONS <br />Safety inspections are an integral part of the overall safety program providing information of <br />unsafe conditions and acts within the department. They furnish information, which can lead to <br />preventive correction before accidents occur. <br />Inspectors <br />The Safety Committee Member shall be responsible for making periodic safety <br />inspections in their department. <br />Inspection Procedure <br />The City Safety Committee shall be responsible for the determination of the location of <br />the inspections that are to take place periodically. <br />14 <br />
