e. After ensuring that no personnel are exposed, and as a check on having disconnected the <br />energy source(s), operate the push button or other normal operating controls to make <br />certain the equipment will not operate. <br />CAUTION: Return the controls to the "neutral" or "off' position after the test. <br />f. The equipment is now locked out and/or tagged out. <br />5. Restoring Machines/Equipment to Normal Procedure Operations <br />a. After the servicing and/or maintenance is complete and the equipment is ready for normal <br />production or operations, check the area around the machines or equipment to ensure that <br />no one is exposed. <br />b. After all tools have been reinstalled, and the employees are in the clear, removed all <br />lockout and/or tag -out devices. Operate the energy isolating devices to restore energy to <br />the machines or equipment. <br />c. Notify affected employees that the servicing or maintenance is completed and the <br />equipment or machine is ready for use. <br />6. Procedure Involving More than One Person <br />If more than one individual is required to lockout or tag -out equipment, each person shall <br />place his/her own personal lockout device or tag -out device on the energy isolating device(s). <br />When an energy - isolating device cannot accept the normal lockout device, a hasp may be <br />used. <br />7. Basic Rules for Using Lock - Out/Tag -Out System Procedures <br />All equipment shall be locked out or tagged out to protect against accidental or inadvertent <br />operation when such operation could cause an injury to personnel. Do not attempt to operate <br />any switch, valve, or other energy - isolating device where it is now locked out and/or tagged <br />out. <br />PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT POLICY <br />The purpose of the personal protective equipment and clothing policy is to inform employees of <br />the proper use and maintenance of person protective equipment and clothing and to identify <br />when the use of PPE is required. <br />Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing: <br />1. General Requirements <br />a. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be maintained in a sanitary and <br />reliable condition. <br />b. PPE shall be used whenever a hazard exists that may cause injury or illness. <br />c. Supervisors shall be responsible for enforcing rules regarding the use of PPE. <br />d. The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present which <br />necessitates the use of PPE. <br />e. The employee shall provide training to all employees required by this section to use PPE. <br />25 <br />
