February 13, 1984
181
Mr. Nathe - 49 Club - Mr. Schumacher was asked at the last Council
meeting to contact Mr. Nathe-z• and ask him to appear before this Council
tonight to explain to the Council when he plans to complete the conditions
of his Special Use Permit. Mr. Schumacher has not been able to contact
MR. Nathe. Mayor Benson suggested that Mr. Schumacher contact Mr.
Nathe by letter and inform him that the Council wants him to appear at
the next Council meeting.
Mr. Marier moved that the Council go forward on this issue and contact
Mr. Nathe by letter asking hime to appear at the next Council meeting.
Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion declared passed.
NEW BUSINESS
Arnold Kelling Letter - Mayor Benson noted that Mr. Kelling's letter
points out the need for a coordinator when the Senior Center becomes
completed. He thought possibly the Council could invite Mr. Kelling to
appear before the Council to give the Council some ideas as well as some
other people from other Senior Centers so that the Council can make
some good judgements in this area.
Mr. Bohjanen moved that a letter be written to Mr. Kelling thanking
him for the information in his letter. He would also like his name
on the newsletter mailing list in Texas. Mr. Kulaszewicz seconded the
motion. Motion carried unanimously.
National League of Cities - Congressional City Conference - Mayor Benson
asked Mr. Schumacher to research this further and determine what the
costs would be. Over the past :! few months the Council has talked about
several things including shared services, sewer and water systems, and
economic development aid. He wanted to find out if this conference
could be a media for some member of the City or City Council to attend
this meeting and possibly visit with some of the people in Washington
D.C. and let them know that not only do we have some concerns in this
City but also visit with the representatives because by doing this we
might find some assistance or programs that are available for this
particular City. He felt obligated to research this and follow through
on what the costs may be and what the results could be. The cost could
be between $700.00 and $750.00. This would not be a pleasure trip.
It would be a session where they would have to meet with staff members
of our senators and congressmen and do some researching of the archives
to find out what progransare available.
Mr. Marier felt whoever went to this conference should have some in-
road to those people to get the proper contact. Mayor Benson said
he personally could not make the conference.
Mr. Kulaszewicz suggested that some preparation work could be done at
home. It would be a good idea to contact the staff of our representatives
in St. Paul.
Mr. Marier suggested that Mr. Schumacher contact the representatives
staff and set up a personal visit with them. MR. Bohjanen said this is
the year to make these personal contacts for assistance.
Mayor Benson suggested that Mr. Schumacher contact each office and det-
ermine when each Senator or Representative will be in this State.
