236
May 29, 1984
Mr. Marier reported that he h.ad attended this meeting and felt this was
a very productive meeting and that all parties are in agreement. There
is still some research being ddne on a device to s: bate the noise on the
forklifts.
OLD BUSINESS
Mayor Benson noted the letter received from the City Assessor on
some questions that had been asked at the Board of Reivew. This letter
is a copy of a letter she had forwarded to Mr. Nadeau. Mr. Reinert
felt the questions had been answered.
Mayor Benson reported that he had requested the Assessor to put together
a report as to how she plans to cover the City over the next four years.
He asked the Clerk to remind her of this report.
Mr. Bohjanen asked what happened with the cigarette license and Mr.
Hawkins said it had been picked up.
1
Mayor Benson noted that at the last Council meeting the matter of the
precincts had been discussed. He requested this matter be brought up for
discussion for his informaiton.
Mr. Rienert moved to put this matter back on the table for discussion.
Seconded by Mr.K aaszewiczMOtilxn carried with Mr. Marier and Mr. Bohjanen
voting, NO.
Mr. Reinert stated his position on this matter noting that he has been
told of the extremely long lines of people waiting to vote.
He felt that precincts would eliminate this problem.
Mr. Bohjanen stated his objections to precincts - he felt that the
establishing of precincts leads to a ward system He did not feel this
City is ready for a precinct split at this time.
The matter of wards vs precincts was discussed and Mayor Benson asked
Mr. Bohjanen if he would feel more comfortable if he knew precincts do
not lead to wards and Mr. Bohjanen said, Yes.
Mr. Marier was concerned with the cost of training additional Judges
if there was two precincts. He felt the additional booths should cut
down on the voting time. He felt the City has the facilities and these
should bused. He also felt the division of this City is not set up to
serve the people in the most efficient manner.
Mr. Kulaszewicz felt along the same lines as Mr. Reinert and felt there
is no reason for this City not to go to the precinct system.
Mayor Benson felt that if this is not done at this time, it will be
necessary in the near future. It may beocme necessary to split into
three precincts. Mayor Benson asked the Clerk how the residents will
be notified of this change.
The Clerk noted that the City would conduct a bulk mailing where a
letter along with a marked map would be sent to every house in the
City. This would inform the residents as to their voting place.
1
1
