VACATION OF LAMOTTE PARK -
The Park Board and the Planning and Zoning Board met jointly on
October 10 to discuss whether or not to vacate LaMotte Park.
There were several LaMotte Road residents present and Mrs. Tuckner
and Mrs. Drewlo were also there. The residents were opposed to va-
cating the Park because the proposed Tuckner /Drewlo plat would utilize
the park area for a street and additional lots. The residents felt
this would increase the traffic problem and would make the density
too high for this area. The residents said if the City would grade
and seed LaMotte Park, they would keep it mowed.
The Planning and Zoning Board and the Park Board did recommend the
Park not be vacated but kept as a green space.
Mayor Benson asked if the traffic problem would be less if the
park was not vacated. Mr. Kluegel said there would probably be
the same amount of traffic, but the flow would go to the end of the
street rather than through the park.
Mr. Reinert moved to approve the recommmendations of the Park Board
not to vacate the Park known as LaMotte Park, the reasons being
nearby citizens showed enough interest in saving the Park and helping
to maintain it and some of the potential traffic problems would be
avoided. Mr. Kulaszewicz seconded the motion.
Mayor Benson asked if it was brought out that it is 2/10 of a mile
to Centerville Park and the County Park is also.very close, and the
City does not anticipate spending a lot of money developing that
park? Mr. Kluegel said this was discussed at length. Mr. Reinert
said he understood the residents were not looking at this area as
a developed park, but rather green space or open space.
Mr. Mastro from the audience representing the residents in the area
said if the Park Board grades and seeds the Park, the residents
will maintain and mow the grass.
On the vote, the motion carried.
037
