Mr. Volk said desks and other
furniture could be drawn on the plan to show the proposed use.
Mr. Marier said there are certain guidelines or standards for cer-
tain types of. work operations and felt the staff had not considered
this. Mr. Schumacher explained what was considered was what could
be done with the money that had been budgeted. Mr. Marier said then
modular construction should be considered, he said all five offices
planned could be modular. Mr. Schumacher said that the plan was de-
termined by placing offices where they would be accessable to the
public yet no windows would have to be moved. The clerks office
and accountants office would be modular.
Mr. Kulaszewicz asked if modular walls had been priced. Mr. Schu-
macher said, no. He suggested checking with Ramsey County and the
prison. Mr. Schumacher said there are some areas that should not
be modular because of the need for privacy.
Mr. Reinert asked what Mr. Kulaszewicz used for space standards at
Metro Council. Mr. Kulaszewicz said this was established by a con -
sultant for Metro Couoncil for example; secretarial, 110 sq. ft.
and some offices 200 sq. ft.
Mayor Benson said some offices would have to be of the permanent
type but felt modular should be checked. Mr. Volk said that modu-
lar wall concept would be alright if the wall went all the way to
the ceiling to provide some sound privacy between offices.
Mr. Schumacher said that he had checked on modular when remodeling
the clerks office and each panel was $400.00 - $500.00. Mr. Marier
said the cost may be higher but it would give the office flexibility.
He felt the plan was a hodge podge and did not provide enough open
space, area for record storage or area for police needs.
Mr. Reinert suggested contacting the League of Minnesota Cities to
see if they can direct the staff to professional help in determin-
ing the office needs.
Mr. Volk said when this plan was prepared an office template was used
to be sure each office could contain the furniture needed for that
particular office use.
Mr. Reinert said before the new Council Chamber was constructed
everyone was in their present space and everything was in place and
everything seemed to be working ok and now they have more space and
everything still seems to be crowded, are we hiring too many city
employees? Mr. Schumacher said there are no new city employees.
However, this plan does include an office for Mr. Kluegel and Mr.
Volk who are outside of our present administration space.
