COUNCIL MEETING May 27, 1986 Page Thirteen CONSIDERATION OF WAYS AND LEANS COMMITTEE RECOLMMENDATIONS DEALING WITH SUPERVISORY AND NON -UNION PERSONNEL Mr. Bohjanen moved to accept the Ways and Means Committee recom- mendations except to add that the City Administrator be given a $4,000 /year raise; the Chief of Police a $3,400 /year raise; $1,400 effective January 1, 1986 and $2,000 effective August 1, 1986 and the Office Assistant a $3,000 /year raise. These raises to be effective January 1, 1986 except as already noted for the Chief of Police. Mr. Bisel seconded the motion. Mayor Benson said he could not support a $3,000.00 raise for an employee who was not evaluated by the Ways and Means Committee. He felt the -raise was exorbitant when other employees who have been with the City longer and have proved themselves received much less. Mr. Marier felt in order to retain this person the City must pay the larger salary. Mr. Reinert said he felt the intent of the motion was honorable but he did not see how the amount of the salary was arrived at, it did not seem fair. This method of granting raises was done in a haphazard manner. Voting on the motion, motion carried with Mayor Benson and Mr. Reinert voting, no. Mr. Bisel said he was concerned with the process of establishing employee salaries and asked that the process be streamlined in the future. Mr. Reinert suggested that maybe the entire Council should serve as a Ways and Means Committee. CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF AWARDING BID ON ONE TON TRUCK EQUIPI:MENT - DON VOLK Mr. Volk has received three bids on the plow equipment and three bids on the dump body. He is recommending that the Council accept the low bid on the snow plow equipment from Crysteel Truck Equip- ment and the second low bid from Crysteel Truck Equipment for the dump body. This will allow for all the equipment to be placed on the truck from one company. Mr. Marier moved to approve Mr. Volk's recommendations. Mr. Boh- janen seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. ENGINEER'S REPORT - BOB TODDIE Mr. Toddie introduced Mr. Ron Stallberg who will be working with him and also gave the Council his background. 1 1
