092
(;(. ?UNCIL MEETING
May 27, 1986
Page Three
2) Build a dam to maintain the water level of—Reshanau
Lake during the Summer season and then in the Fall
drop the lake level for the upcoming Spring runoff.
3) Dredge Reshanau Lake to make it deeper so more water
can be held. This would allow a larger reservoir for
the Rice Creek Watershed District for runoff. Also,
the fill could be used for the improvement of Chomonix
Golf Course in low areas or for diking which would bene-
fit the county.
4) Establish and define a project for aerating and a kill
of the roughfish for the overall general improvement of
the lake quality.
We realize these suggestions are possible with the help of the City
Council and the assistance of Anoka County, State Highway Depart-
ment, the Department of Natural Resources and the Rice Creek Wa-
tershed District. We also request the city look into the State
and Federal funds that could be used because of the high water
problem and some type of aid be established.
Mr. Toddie said he had been in the area and did take water eleva-
tions. He indicated that Reshanau Lake was very near the 100 year
flood elevation but not quite there.
There was discussion regarding controlling Rice Lake and it was
noted that when Centerville Lake is high then that area drains
into the Chain of Lakes areas eventually working up to Reshanau
Lake.
Mr. John Sweeny said he had talked with the DNR and RCWD and they
told him they consider Lino Lakes a reservoir. They are ignoring
Lino Lakes concerns and he asked that the Council participate in
looking at the entire watershed district.
Mayor Benson noted that West Shadow Lake Drive is a Municipal
State Aid Road and MSA funds could be used to reconstruct the
road at a higher elevation to protect against flooding. Mr. Smith
noted this would not protect the property owners on Reshanau Lake
and felt a method should be determined to get the flood water out
of the lake fast. Mr. Mastro, a resident on LaMotte Drive asked
the Council to consider that whatever method is used in controlling
Reshanau Lake it will not back up other lakes and create problems
in other areas.
Mr. Andrew Currie thanked the City for providing shuttle service
for the residents on West Shadow Lake Drive. He asked Mr. Volk
for a list of the people who worked on the shuttle service.
1
