086
COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 27, 1987
association that only affects the Centennial Fire Relief Assn. To
solve these problems, new legislation will have to be drafted and then
the representatives from Lino Lakes, Centerville and Circle Pines will
be asked to carry this proposed legislation to the State Legislature
for passage. Mr. Hawkins asked if each city was being asked to
appropriate $1,000 for this issue. Mr. Schumacher said apparently
this is what is being asked. Mr. Hawkins did not understand the large
cost. He estimated that it should cost approximately $300.00. Mayor
Benson noted that this legislation would only affect these three
communities and is unusal and did not see that there would be any
opposition. Mr. Schumacher said Mr. Benjamin could tell the Council
why so much money is being requested.
Planning Committee Appointment - Mayor Benson asked for nominations
for this appointment. Mr. Bisel nominated Mr. Reinert. Mr. Reinert
was told that this committee is responsible for planning buildings and
facilites for the fire district. Currently they will consider what to
do about the Centerville Fire Station. Voting on the motion, motion
carried unanimously.
Mayor Benson asked that Mr. Benjamin be prepared to answer such
questions as; 1) What is the Lino Lakes station presently used for; 2)
What is the future of the Lino Lakes station ?; 3) Why is $1,000 needed
for the relief association?
PARK BOARD REPORT
Playground Equipment Quotations - Mr. Volk explained that he has
received quotations for additional playground equipment at Lino Park.
He showed the Council pictures of the equipment and told them that the
Park Board has recommended accepting the low bid.
Mr. Bisel asked if it was possible for a child to be injured on the
cork screw equipment? Mr. Volk said it was possible, however he felt
that the manufacturing company has spent a great deal of time and
money to see that the design is as safe as it can be. He also noted
that each piece of equipment is designed for certain age levels and
this-piece is designed for children ages four through eight who
usually are accompanied by a parent or supervisor. Mr. Bisel asked
for Mr. Volk's personal opinion about the safety of the cork screw.
Mr. Volk did not have a problem with it. After further discussion it
was decided that there was an element of danger on all playground
equipment.
Mr. Reinert moved to accept the Park Board recommendation for the low
bid from Earl F. Andersen & Assoc. of $2,693.00. Mr. Bohjanen
seconded the motion. Motion carried with Mr. Bisel voting no.
PAGE 2
