236
COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 14, 1988
per year for fire protection. He noted that in 1987 there
was a car fire at the Fins Station. That fire cost the Fire
Department $800.00. A users fee could have covered that
cost. He also suggested that the cities charge a fire
inspection fee for review of plans for fire safety
standards.
Mrs. Elsenpeter noted that the joint powers agreement does
allow for the appointment of two Fire Commission Alternates.
The Council discussed whether or not they wanted two
alternates.
Mr. Bisel moved to approve two alternates to the Centennial
Fire District and retain Mrs. Elsenpeter as one alternate
and add Mr. Lance Olson as the second alternate. Mr.
Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
OPEN MIKE
Mr. MacDonald, 6901 LaMotte Drive - Mr. MacDonald referenced
page seventeen of the February 22, 1988 Council Minutes
regarding Rice Creek Watershed District's (RCWD) intent to
clean out the ditch adjacent to the LaMotte Drive
subdivision. He asked for a clarification of this item.
Mr. Schumacher explained that area flooded about two years
ago and the City asked RCWD to preform a study to determine
the best option for rectifying the flooding situation. Mr.
Stahlberg explained that the study is complete and he read
the report to the audience. RCWD is proposing to improve
the ditch, straighten it out and bring it to the original
grade. Mr. MacDonald said it appears that they plan to do
what they originally promised the property owners in that
area. Mr. Stahlberg said RCWD will stake the proposed
improvement and Mr. MacDonald said this was already done and
the stakes appear to be in the proper place.
Judy Beseler, 149 Marcia - Ms. Beseler said that she has
heard rumors that municipal water and sanitary sewer may be
extended into her area soon. She noted that some of her
neighbors have already posted for sale signs on their
property or are trying to figure out how they can subdivide
their lots into additional building sights. She asked what
the situation is regarding the possibility of extending
utilities.
Mr. Stahlberg explained that a feasibility study has been
requested for the extension of services up 4th Avenue to the
PAGE 3
1
1
1
