023
COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 25, 1988
Mr. Mike Mastro, 1553 LaMotte Drive - Mr. Mastro said that
he was concerned because the proposed walkway to Centerville
Park from the new subdivision would encourage parking by
park users on the cul -de -sac thereby increasing traffic into
the Lino Lakes portion of LaMotte Drive. He also asked if
the sewage coming from the new subdivision to LaMotte Drive
would cause problems for residents at the end of LaMotte
Drive. Mr. Stahlberg said sewage would not be a problem
because of the size of the pipes. He noted other areas in
Lino Lakes that have even larger situations than this.
Mr. Bisel explained his concern was the traffic problem in
the area. The road is narrow and people do not seem to
realize that it is a dead end street. He asked about the
capacity for the LaMotte Park in Lino Lakes. Mr. Schumacher
explained that this is just a neighborhood park and will not
be developed to attract users from outside this area.
Mr. Bohjanen asked if there was any other possible way into
the proposed subdivision besides LaMotte Drive. Mr.
Stahlberg said that he and the City Planner have reviewed
all the different alternatives presented by the developer
and this is the best plan.
Glen Simonson, 1566 LaMotte Drive - Mr. Simonson said he had
checked with Anoka County Highway Department and LaMotte
Drive does not meet any of their standards. He noted that
cars can go 50 MPH on LaMotte Drive and this is a narrow
road with fast traffic. Mr. Mastro also noted that the
driving surface on the Centerville section of LaMotte Drive
is narrower than in Lino Lakes and in addition there is
traffic congestion caused by the Centerville Park. Mr. Bisel
noted that there are other areas of Lino Lakes that have
only one entrance /exit. He asked what the width of Black
Duck Drive is compared to LaMotte Drive. Mr. Stahlberg
guessed that Black Duck Drive is about 36 feet and has curbs
and gutters, however West Shadow Lake Drive is narrower than
LaMotte Drive and has more residential units. Mayor Benson
noted that studies have confirmed that it is residents
living in the area that drive the fastest.
Mayor Benson explained that a great deal of testimony has
been received regarding the variance application and the
preliminary plat and the Council must take action. Mr.
Hawkins told the Council that whatever action is taken must
be supported. Mr. Bohjanen said he was concerned about the
long cul -de -sac and the fact that there never will be
another way into that area. Mr. Bisel wanted to be clear
PAGE 3
