COUNCIL MINUTES
MARCH 12, 1990
The next project planned by the EDC is to obtain an inventory
of property for firms to purchase. However, before this can
be accomplished, a comprehensive plan for the freeway
intersections must be completed. Currently the EDC is
looking at two different studies to determine what consultant
to select to complete the plan. After the plan is completed,
then the total cost for each area must be determined before
the City can obtain the inventory. Creation of an EDC
authority will allow Lino Lakes to build the inventory and
offer parcels to developers. Later this fall after the
comprehensive plan is completed, a luncheon is planned with
developers to determine if they are interested in locating in
Lino Lakes.
The EDC is also looking at a redevelopment plan for Lake
Drive. In addition, there should be an announcement of a
business park south of the prison.
The long term roll of the EDC will basically be a "think
tank" and more of a clearing house for business activity.
Mr. Miller said he felt the EDC had paid for itself and has
given ideas to the Design Review Board, Park Board and the
Council.
Mayor Bisel said he thought it is interesting to see how the
EDC has evolved and felt this is a good experience for the
City.
Council Member Neal asked about the costs of the consultants.
Mr. Miller explained. Mr. Miller was asked how the area
being considered for the campus industrial park was zoned.
Mr. Miller said it is zoned Light Industrial and maybe with
the requests mixed zoning may be considered.
Council Member Neal asked when the EDC will be contacting
clients regarding locating in Lino Lakes. Mr. Miller said
this should take place this fall when there should be an
inventory to offer with costs figures.
It was noted that some people serving on the EDC have
businesses located outside of Lino Lakes. Mr. Miller was
asked why this has occurred. Mr. Miller said he did not know
why.
It was noted that some members of the EDC do not live in Lino
Lakes. Mr. Schumacher explained that Mr. Uhde was invited
because of his experience in land developing and Mr. Jensen
was invited to be a member because he is a member of the
Anoka County Economic Development Committee. It was felt
that it would be important to be in contact with other
agencies within the County so that these agencies would be
aware of what is happening in Lino Lakes.
