COUNCIL MINUTES AUGUST 27, 1990 were outlined by Sheriff Wilkinson. He noted areas where crime has appeared to lessen. He gave an example of an assault crime investigated by the Lino Lakes Police Department and an example of a drug related crime also investigated by the Lino Lakes Police Department. Sheriff Wilkinson noted some new services provided by his Department. They include a canine service, increased jail facilities, expanded SWAT team, Sheriff's Reserve and an underwater recovery team. He also noted that a new computer, system has been installed and he expects that it will be several months before it is fully operational. Mayor Bisel thanked Sheriff Wilkinson for updating the Council and asked if there has been increased emphasis placed on drug activities. . Sheriff Wilkinson4explained that his Department is working jointly with a Task Force and related activities has been a cooperative effort. Mayor Bisel said he was concerned about crack moving into the midwest and asked Sheriff Wilkinson if he saw anything moving into Anoka County. Sheriff Wilkinson explained that some crack has appeared in the County but he was not aware of any crack houses. Sheriff Wilkinson was asked his opinion regarding high speed chases. Sheriff Wilkinson said they were a necessary e vil. He noted that he has provided guidelines for his deputi es to follow. Sheriff Wilkinson said the equipment is working very well and the veterans organizations will be recognized for this donation. Mayor Bisel asked if the new computer in the Sheriff's office will be compatible with the computer-system in the.I no, Lakes Police "Department. Sheriff Wilkinson said he did not know yet. He noted that the computer was not purchased with this purpose in mind because of the different systems in each community. Sheriff Wilkinson explained that the systems could possibly be made compatible in the future. Mayor Bisel and the Council thanked Sheriff Wilkinson for coming this evening.
